Fairytales

I really enjoyed reading the fairytales written by the Grimm brothers. I had heard of them before, but I had never read one of their stories before. I noticed in the stories there is always a lesson, particularly towards children. For instance, in the story, Little Red Riding Cap, the girl's mother to stay on the path on the way into grandmother's house. Another thing I noticed about the Grimm brother's stories is that God was often talked about. For instance, in Hansel and Gretel, Hansel prays to God to help keep them safe.I found it interesting that these stories are from the ones I have heard with the same name or similar name.

Don't sweat the small stuff...

The other day my laptop stopped working. I acted like it was the end of the world because I had papers trapped on it and midterm reviews. I got sick and felt really bad. I thought everything was looking down. Then I took a step back and realized it was just a small set back. I have a really good life. I have a great opportunity here at Western to get a great education. I have good friends and a great family. My boyfriend and I are getting along well. I never have to worry about whether or not I will have money to eat. When I thought about it,  I realized I shouldn’t sweat the small stuff.

Paranormal Activity 3

A few days ago I saw the new horror movie, Paranormal Activity 3 directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. The movie was the continued story about the paranormal activities. The way the movie was filmed was super scary. The directors filmed the movie in a creative way. Sometimes a hand held camera from one of the characters filmed the movie. Another time the camera was attached to a broken fan. This made the camera able to see the whole room like a fan would. I had never seen the first two movies, but I heard that this was the scariest by far.  I really enjoyed the movie and found it scary. Let’s just say I didn’t get much sleep that night.

Writing a Paper (Annotated Bibliography)

The hardest part about writing a paper to me is the beginning. It is difficult for me to find the right words that draw the audience in. Once I get going on the paper it seems to get easier. I think it is difficult for me in the beginning because I am concerned about the first impression I am making. I don’t want to disappoint the readers. For example, if I am reading a book and the first paragraph is dull I lose interest. I often know what I want to say in a paper, but I cannot get the words down on paper the way I would like to.

Going Home

This weekend I went home. After my last class Friday I drove to my hometown. I got to see my best friend who I hadn’t seen in a few weeks.  It was great to catch up with her. My brother came home Friday too. Today I’m visiting my boyfriend. I first went to his soccer game. They won their first game, which was very exciting. Afterwards we went to Olive Garden. Right now we are watching the Tigers game. It’s so great to be with him. It’s really hard not going to the same college as my boyfriend, he is not only my boyfriend, but my best friend.

Sonny's Blues

The story Sonny’s Blues was confusing to me in the beginning. At first I thought Sonny’s brother had died. Then I realized he got caught with drug possession. It was a sad story overall, but I feel I learned from it.  It was very sad that the narrator’s daughter died at such a young age. This story made me realize that tomorrow is not a guarantee, but a privilege. I appreciate the narrator’s mother. She seems very wise. It is true that one should always be loyal to there family. I believe that family is a special bond and everyone should look out for one another.

Fall

When leaves start to change colors and fall from the trees, you know it is fall. When a crisp breeze blows through my hair, I know it is fall. Fall is sweatshirt weather. Fall is my favorite season. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved autumn. My favorite part about it is the beautiful weather. I like how it is not too cold and not too hot. I love the smell of fall; it smells of burning leaves and pumpkins. Every fall I go to an apple orchard and pick out a pumpkin. I also eat donuts and drink cider. Today is the day. I am going to Wirard’s Orchard.

Carrie

Last class period we watched the movie Carrie. The movie was about a girl who had a very protective and crazed mother. Her mom was convinced that Carrie was constantly sinning. Near the beginning of the movie, Carrie started her period. Unfortunately for her, her mother never told her about it. So in the girls’ locker room she thought she was dying. All of the girls made fun of her. When Carrie got home from school, she asked her mother why she didn’t tell her. Her mother responds by repeating bible verses at her and telling her that she sinned. I feel so bad for Carrie in that she has know one to talk to. Her life must be very lonely.

Facebook

Recently Facebook has come up with a new feature. The new feature allows you to see anyone who has "de-friended" you.  I think this feature is not a good idea at all. If someone defriends you on Facebook I think it is best not to know. Sure, you may notice when you try to search someone that they are no longer you’re friend. It’s not a big deal, but if you see all of the people who de-friended you on Facebook at once, it could feel a little weird. People de-friend one another on Facebook for all different kinds of reasons. Honestly, if you don’t know who de-friends you it doesn’t hurt you.
